To Albert (Popa)
It wasn’t long after Laura and I met back in 2014 that Laura & I were driving up to Maghull to meet the grandparents. You and Doreen (Nana) welcomed me to the Parker family straight away, after finishing the standard questions of where are you from? What do you do for a living? what football team do you support? The Parkers would not have accepted Laura dating a Man United fan. However, after explaining that my fathers’ side of the family all originate from Liverpool and that I was indeed a red, not blue. I quickly gained acceptance.
Albert was keen to know what I did as a Chemical Engineer as being a fellow engineer himself, and we discussed some of the work I did within nuclear decommissioning and what you did in the drawing office before you retired.
We have shared so many memories over the years including holidays to Skipton where Laura and I were the bar tenders, we both had a mission to get all the grandparents (grumps) drunk. To the COVID Christmas where we were only allowed 24 hours with family members. Laura and I drove to Leicester to meet one half of her grandparents, before driving back past our home in Cheshire and up the M6/ M58 to Maghull to see you and Doreen. We sat outside on the driveway at a safe distance to spend the limited time together that Christmas.
Albert always had a smile and joke to tell to lighten the mood and always remained cheery as your ailments seemed to catch up with you in the last few years. Whilst Laura & I were regular visitors to Maghull, your move down to Leicester did allow Laura & to see more of you. Especially, with the birth of Luke. We have many photos of Luke sat on your knee for the short 9 month’s Luke had with you. Laura and I promise to make sure he knows about his Great Popa growing up. You live on through Laura & Luke and, I promise to look after them both.
Rest well.
