As a supporter of both Exeter and Portsmouth I will miss George greatly, especially the stories he told me in Exeter about his time at Portsmouth.

I would also like to remember his boyhood friend, John Brand, who died a couple of weeks before George in Topsham.

Their mothers enabled George to be a pioneer in US football. Sad that neither of them will see this year's American/Canadian/Mexico World Cup.

George was possibly the only player to knock out his manager in the boxing rink, at George Smith's invitation.

A one off, a great attacking left back, as Arsenal will testify!

What a great player, great coach, and all around great guy. It was a honor to play for you George. I loved your enthusiasm for the game and your quick wit. You will be missed.
