Kenneth GordonHARRISA talented musician and engineer, born in Sherborne, who lived most of his life in Somerset. A Yeovil grammar school boy, he was one of the first students at the newly opened technical college in Yeovil. Having failed to become a pilot due to severe colour blindness, he joined the Army and attended the Royal Military School of Music performing in the Kings 14th/20th Hussars military band, serving in Libya for two years and playing at many royal and state occasions.

On leaving the army he took up an apprenticeship with Westlands as an engineer, specialising in Hydraulics. He worked for Sterling Hydraulics in Crewkerne most of his engineering life, retiring as a Director of the company.

Throughout his life, he continued with his music, playing in Sherborne Town Band, in various jazz bands and as a session musician supporting visiting orchestras and artists to the South West and in the pit for theatrical productions in the area. His band had regular slots at The Shrubbery in Ilminster and Jazz Club in Ash.

In his retirement he played jazz in many pubs and venues in the area. He played with Sherborne School Swing band, who did a tour of Cuba. He joined Yeovil Concert band and performed with them for many years until his failing sight made reading the music too difficult. He played Cornet, Trumpet, Mellophone and French Horn. He was once described in the press as Yeovil's Eddie Calvert.

He will be remembered for his great sense of humour and unrelenting positive outlook. He leaves behind four children (all musicians) and two grandchildren.
