Today, I want to say goodbye to a very special woman — not family by blood, but family by heart.
What started over 10 years ago as a simple visit to my sister’s salon turned into something so much more. From doing her nails in the salon, to visiting her at home, our time together grew into a friendship I will forever treasure. In the end, I didn’t just go to do her nails — I went to spend time with her, to laugh, to chat, and to share moments that meant more than words can say.
Even though her cat scared me to death and attacked me more times than I can count, it never once stopped me from going back. That’s the kind of pull she had — the kind of person she was. Full of cheek, always ready with a bit of banter, and always able to give as good as she got.
It truly was an honour to know her, and an even greater honour when she asked, because she had no grandchildren of her own, if Mady could be her grandchild. And Mady gladly accepted, loving her as “Nanna Rita” — a bond that meant the world to both of them.
She will be deeply missed, but I will forever cherish the memories we made — the laughter, the stories, and the time we shared.
Fly high, my dear friend. Back in the arms of your beloved George and your babies. I hope one day we’ll meet again, but until then… go find my mam and give her a stern talking to.
Rest peacefully. You will never be forgotten.
Emma
