John was a treasured family friend for many years. He drove me to the church on my wedding day and with my new husband to our reception, then joining the wedding party and regaling others at the table with stories of his working life!

He drove me to Leicester Royal Infirmary when I went into labour. I think with me huffing and puffing in the back seat and my husband up front riding shot gun, John was very relieved when the midwife came out to put me in a wheelchair and take me to my fate so he could make his escape as quickly as possible! That was probably one trip he could have done without! Thank goodness he wasn't in London for the day! My daughter Georgia still talks about our journeys with him from the cradle to her teenage years.

I live in Greece and John collected me many times from the airport, took my mother to many appointments and social commitments and was generally a good egg.

His gentlemanly charm was always appreciated but perhaps even more was his wit and wonderful ability to be a raconteur extraordinaire! I have spluttered many times a good glass of red when he delivered the punchline!

I'm so very glad that I met him and had the joy to spend many hours in his company.

He will be missed by so many. My deepest condolences to his Godson who he spoke of often with huge affection, to Annie and her family and David who was his friend for so many years.
