Having had the good fortune to meet John in (LR) Nagasaki I quickly learnt to bring every newspaper, VIZ, and "a meter of books" back every time I flew.

Generous with his time, knowledge, and at the bar, no one was ever left out or bored in John's company.

"Laugh, I nearly bought a round"

The only man to get a free drink in the Tim Buckley bar, so named after John thought of a song they didn't have.

Rest in Peace my friend. Thanks for your "help with the big words", introducing me to the h@sh house harriers, and the most appropriate h@sh name!!!

I owe you more than you could believe,
Richie Blake

John will be hugely missed by so many hundreds of colleagues past and present at Lloyd’s Register. Just the mention of his name, brings a smile to the faces of so many who had the pleasure of working with and learning from John. There are so many funny and touching stories of John’s time at LR and no matter where he was in world, one thing is a constant - it was never boring working with John.

I think I can summarise John time at LR as “work hard, play hard” and have fun while you do. Trust John to depart from us on the 1st April.

I met John at the Lloyds Register Liverpool office in 1977 and we were friends since. Many thanks for all the happy memories of our times since.
